Happy New Year!
Dear friends, one more time HAPPY NEW YEAR from CUAP team: Sergei, Philip, Erik and Nello (who was in Japan when this picture was taken).
Sergei Sviatchenko was interviewed for the “Dad´s Style” issue of Free&Easy. In Japan they call stylish men “dad´s”. The English translation is possible to read on Alexander Gram blog “Preppy Beast” here: : preppybeast.com
L’Officiel Hommes Interview
L’Officiel Hommes contacted CUAP in connection with the capsule collection for Premium Jack&Johnes, but the questions Sina Braetz sent were about art. A few are here:
- What aim should abstract art have?
To think in images and reflect it.
- How would you describe your art?
As something looked at with an interest.
- And with an adjective?
Good or very good.
- Would you call yourself a "provocateur"?
This word has a slightly hyperbolic flavor, but the experience I have with images, makes me brave and daring, so yes.
- What kind of role do "objects" play in your work?
They are the recognizable elements in the compositions, those which encourage the viewer to look further for the explanation.
- What challenges you when transforming that what you see/feel into your art?
It is not a conscious process for me "to transform" . I can compare "a moment I start to work " with " a moment we suddenly run into the water, if on the beach" or "a moment we want to touch a dog". It is later we can say - " I was hot and wanted a dive" or " I was lonely".
- There is also a slight dark surrealism in your work. Does you art wants to reveal or indicate something specific?
It does reveal the constant reflection in the unreachable works of Man Ray and indicates my envy of his "Indestructible Object". And it is just one example.
- Do your care much about fashion?
I care about it, yes. It is a part of our culture.
- What does it personally mean to you?
That I spend time on it, with it and for it.
- You also have an on-going project called „glue it“. What is the motif of this project?
I work with my kids on many of my projects. They are my “tools” or my “objects”. GLUE IT – different, it is a dialog with my daughter Alexandra, where we inspire each other visually.
Danish style icons
Close Up And Private project became familiar to many in Denmark after the program for Danish National television about “Danish style icons”.

The soutien collar coat
In December came another request from Free&Easy. This time their interest was about the particular type of men’s wear: “the soutien collar coat”. The English translation is possible to read on Alexander Gram blog “Preppy Beast” here: : preppybeast.com
